Hungarian film takes top prize in Trieste
Budapest, January 31 (MTI) – The Wednesday Child (Szerdai gyerek), by the Hungarian director Lili Horváth, has won the prize for Best Feature Film at the Trieste Film Festival, the Hungarian Film Union told MTI on Sunday.
“This prize is especially important for us because the audience judged The Wednesday Child the best of the festival. We are very happy that this film found a way to their hearts,” the union quoted Horváth as saying.
Horváth accepted the award in person at a gala on Saturday evening.
The film, “a social drama about alienated youth built around a strong female character”, according to the festival programme, was made with the support of the Hungarian National Film Fund and Germany’s Filmfoerderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein. It took the main prize in the East of the West programme in Karlovy Vary and the top award at the Kolkata International Film Festival. Horváth also won the prize for best director in Cottbus.
