PM Orban attends Chritian Dems board meeting

(MTI) – Prime Minister Viktor Orban yesterday attended a board meeting of the co-governing Christian Democratic People’s Party (KDNP).

In his address at the meeting, Orban said that “promotion by performance and achievement” was a Christian value to be preserved. He argued that without hard work no political system but communism could operate. In a statement, KDNP quoted the prime minister as saying that Hungary’s staying competitive requires hard work, while people’s hard work and raising children should be recognised with a favourable tax system and family tax benefits.

KDNP head Zsolt Semjen referred to his party as one recognising the value of labour rather than the value of capital. In his contribution, Semjen blamed Hungary’s left for a situation in which “leftist values can only be represented by the traditional Christian right”.

Bertalan Havasi, press chief of the Prime Minister’s Office, earlier quoted Orban as praising the cooperation between his ruling Fidesz party and KDNP, and made a commitment to continue in their alliance.
