Authority raises constitutional concern over postal services bill
Budapest (MTI) – Attila Péterfalvi, head of the National Data Protection Authority, raised constitutional concerns over an amendment concerning data protection at the postal services, daily Magyar Nemzet said on Saturday.
The paper cited a statement Peterfalvi sent to the relevant parliamentary committee in connection with the proposal submitted by Fidesz lawmaker Szilárd Németh.
According to the proposal, postal services Magyar Posta could classify all data whose publication would “disproportionately hurt its business interests,” the paper said, adding that several civil organisations asked lawmakers to reject approving the motion.
Péterfalvi said keeping information on the utilisation of public funds in the postal services’ contracts would be unconstitutional since such an information qualifies as data of public interest.
He said that the proposal would significantly curtail transparency of the postal services’ operations and finances.
