Hungarian economy minister meets Korean Air chairman
Budapest, February 24 (MTI) – Economy Minister Mihály Varga held talks with Korean Air chairman Chang Hoon Chi in South Korea on Wednesday, his ministry said.
Korean Air is open to reviewing the possibility of a direct flight between Seoul and Budapest, Varga said.
A direct flight between the two capitals would play a key role in boosting economic and tourism cooperation between Hungary and Korea, the ministry said. Annual airborne trade between the two countries amounts to around 80,000 tonnes.
An air travel agreement reached between the two countries last May establishes the conditions necessary to launch such a flight, the ministry noted. Last year, 120,000 South Koreans visited Hungary, it said, adding that South Korea is Hungary’s top tourism source market in Asia.
Varga is in Korea with a delegation of business leaders. On Thursday, he will co-chair the second meeting of the Hungarian-Korean Economic Cooperation Committee.
