Hungarian screenwriter among the best in the world

Change language:
A Hungarian screenwriter is among the best in a recent list published by Variety. Kata Wéber made the list with nine other candidates for this year’s top ten screenwriters to watch. She wrote the screenplays for several of Kornél Mundruczó’s films. Her most recent work is Pieces of a Woman which was presented at the Venice Film Festival.
According to Origo, the specialist Hollywood magazine publishes the top ten most promising filmmakers, screenwriters, actors, animators, producers, and cinematographers every year, and
this year, the Hungarian Kata Wéber was also selected as one of the ten most promising screenwriters.
Kata Wéber’s Pieces of a Woman was presented at the Venice Film Festival and achieved great success. Vanessa Kirby, who played the leading role, received the Coppa Volpi Award for best actress, and the Jury of Venice Classics also awarded the movie. After the premiere at Venice Film Festival, the movie was screened at the Toronto Film Festival as well, and Netflix has already purchased it for international distribution.

‘Most promising’ and ‘among the best in the world’ are very different things. The headline is pure hyperbole.
