Parliament approves 255 laws in 2013
(MTI) – Hungary’s parliament approved 255 laws this year, 30 more than a year before, with the total length of parliamentary sessions shrinking to 795 hours from 918 in 2012.
Of all the laws approved, 88 were new legislation, 167 amendments and 44 international treaties or agreements.
In 2013, altogether 432 bills were submitted to parliament. Of them, 180 draft laws were submitted by the government and 92 by lawmakers of the ruling Fidesz-Christian Democrat alliance. Lawmakers approved 251 of the 272 bills initiated by the governing side. Opposition lawmakers submitted altogether 157 bills, of which two were voted into laws. None of the bills were submitted jointly by pro-government and opposition lawmakers.
The parliamentary speaker and his deputies imposed fines in 53 cases, mostly on lawmakers of the radical nationalist Jobbik and on independent deputies.
