Budapest Exiles prepare for game against Debrecen University

Change language:

After one week break from playing the Budapest Exiles are embracing themselves for their clash on Saturday against newly promoted Debrecen University Rugby Club (DEAC RFC) at the Budapest Rugby Center in Kincsem Park. Before the game itself the Exiles will be hosting from 12:00 a tryout session for those who would be interested in getting into rugby.

There are still some question marks as to the squad that will play DEAC, as some players are still recovering after their clash with Kecskemet including Irish number 8 David Cleary. The Exiles will also be without their Mexican flanker Luis Fernando Herrejon who is suspended for 3 weeks for the red card he got against Kecskemet.

After two games Exiles are fourth in the league,

4 points behind current champions Esztergom Vitezeki. They hope to narrow the lead to the top club in the country on Saturday by picking up a bonus point for tries scored. The task doesn’t seem impossible since DEAC have conceded over 121 points in just two games this season, yet the Exiles don’t want to underestimate their opposition.

“They only just got promoted so they are learning their way around this division” says Exiles head coach Thomas Aponte.

“They are absolutely on fire, they have superfast players and they will sooner or later start catching other teams by surprise.

We need to make sure that we won’t be the ones surprised, as we have noticed in their last game against Szeged that they sometimes managed to get the opposition to play their long distance running game” adds Aponte.

Exiles scrum-half Balint Kósa is looking forward to this fixture, as he knows DEAC very well from the 7s circuit, where both teams have regularly clashed. “I’ve never played them in XVs, but I’ve seen them and they are very motivated and constantly look for improvement.
