More and more Hungarians are working in Slovakia
A couple of years ago Slovakians used to cross the border and work in Hungary, but this trend has just turned around; more and more Hungarians choose to work in Slovakia where the salary is higher and the work environment is better, penzcentrum.hu wrote.
According to several sources, Slovakian labour exchange offices are deliberately recruiting Hungarian workers for positions in the automotive industry and in the electronics industry, usually from cities near the border, such as Győr, Komárom, Esztergom, and Tata. Many of them advertise online, but they also use flyers.
A recent flyer found in Győr was written in Hungarian and advertised jobs in Slovakia for Hungarian workers; the employer offered a monthly salary of 265 000 HUF for workers in the automotive industry and in the electronics industry, free accommodation, and they even cover travelling costs and offer food subsidies.
Many ask why Slovakians are targeting Hungarians, and the answer is, according to János Ficza, PR manager of Workania.hu that Slovakia is short on labour force, while Hungarian workers are trained professionals. Many Slovakians have already left the country to work abroad, and they are trying to fill the hole with Hungarian workers who are well-trained and are close to the border. A new automobile factory will soon be established near the Hungarian border, so this trend will definitely continue, Ficza said.
According to the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH), the gross monthly income of Hungarian workers was around 247 800 HUF last year, while in Slovakia it’s around gross €950, which is roughly 295 000 HUF; regarding the average salary, a Slovakian worker gets 47 000 HUF extra every month.
Regarding the automotive industry and the electronics industry, the gap gets wider and wider, depending on the position a worker has; the average difference is 50 000 HUF. Giving the higher salary and the subsidies on travelling, accommodation, and food, working in Slovakia is definitely an appealing opportunity for Hungarians.
