Is it a good idea to build a MotoGP racetrack for 180 mn EUR amid an economic crisis?
The track will be in Hajdúnánás and the government announced in June that they will build it for 65 billion HUF (178 mn EUR). On Friday, they decided to give a further 2.2 mn EUR to complete the project.
Based on the plans, the racetrack will be ready by 2023 and they will use it to organize world championships on it.
László Palkovics, minister of innovation and technology, said before that they will build a hotel, and an education and a conference centre, as well. He added that, from a marketing viewpoint, organizing a MotoGP is like organizing a Formula 1 race. However, nobody knows whether the ministry made a cost-benefit analysis or a feasibility study in the issue.
