Pfizer to be the first coronavirus vaccine in Hungary

The American-German Pfizer vaccine can be licensed soon in Hungary; furthermore, the first vaccinations can already begin in December. If everything goes well, the implementation of mass vaccination can be expected in the first quarter of 2021.

As the Hungarian news portal 24.hu reports, Hungary purchased a total of 17.5 million vaccines from several manufacturers. At present, it seems that the Pfizer vaccine may be licensed by the European Medicines Agency as soon as possible so that it will be available for mass vaccination for the first time.

According to the Ministry’s announcement, a pre-authorization committee reviewed the safety, efficacy and quality of the vaccine and also studied the results of clinical trials.

The Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine was the first to be officially approved in the UK. Pfizer in the US and BioNtech in Germany announced on 18^th November that the vaccine is 95% effective. In addition to the UK, the Kuwaiti authorities have also approved the emergency use of coronavirus vaccines by Pfizer and BioNTech.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Friday approved the emergency use of a coronavirus vaccine by Pfizer and BioNTech in the United States. The FDA has rated the vaccine as 95% effective. New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo, who was present at the first vaccination, told the press: “The light is already visible at the end of the tunnel, although it is a long tunnel” – reported by Portfolio.

The vaccine can be given to people over 16 years of age. The first, with about 2.9 million doses, will be given to health care workers and residents of nursing homes.

As Világgazdaság reports, the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine was first authorised in the UK and later officially approved in Bahrain, Canada and Mexico. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) plans to complete the evaluation of the vaccine by 29th December, although the right to change the date is reserved.

In Hungary, the first coronavirus vaccination can already begin in December; while the mass vaccination is expected for the first quarter of 2021.

Antal Rogán, Minister of the Prime Minister’s Cabinet office emphasised that registrants at vakcinainfo.gov.hu ​​will have an advantage: “If you want to get vaccinated, sign up. It is not yet mandatory. If you apply, you will be contacted when the vaccine is here, assigned to the right place, and you can still decide not to receive it. On the other hand, if you don’t sign up, we don’t know you want to receive it, so you’ll be back in line.”
