Military master chefs cook in the Carmelite Monastery of Buda
From January 2021, the Carmelite canteen is operated by the Hungarian Army Brigadier Sándor Szurmay, whose military chefs team – awarded at last year’s Gastronomic Olympics – are also cooking for the monastery.
Even though no rent has to be paid for catering units, restaurants, cafes and gyms on state and municipally owned leases until 1st June, Gundel Restaurant terminated its contract with the Prime Ministership in December. As the Hungarian news portal Index reports, the canteen of the Carmelite Church of Buda is currently being replaced from the Sándor Palace temporarily, and that the professional military chefs of the Hungarian Army – who were previously top-ranked at international cooking awards – are also cooking for the monastery.
