The British love Hungarian pubs and spas

In 2020, the number of guests arriving in Hungary from Great Britain was outstanding in the months where the exit and entry restrictions of certain countries allowed it. British people seem to really enjoy the multitude of Hungarian free-time activities that include things like spas or even pubs, and so should you.

Among the 100,000 visitors from the country, many of the capital’s sights were popular, the Hungarian Tourism Agency wrote. Prior to the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, in the first months of 2020, many spent more or less time in Budapest.

Last year, the United Kingdom ranked 6th in the ranking of Hungarian sending markets;

according to the data, the guest traffic from the island country mainly concentrated in the capital – 88% of the guest nights were in Budapest.

By age group, 40% of the visitors came from the age group of 18-34, while 30% came from the age group of 35-44. From the mobile cell data, it is quite clear that the older generation was attracted by the more classic sights offered by the capital – like the Parliament, Heroes’ Square, Buda Castle – while the younger ones were mainly attracted by the popular nightclubs in downtown Kazinczy Street.

The data also show that many people also visited the thermal baths – the Széchenyi Spa and Swimming Pool was especially popular.

Most guests stayed in hotels and private accommodation last year. While the older age group preferred the former, generation Z under the age of 25 spent an average of 3 nights in the latter.

The greatest spending potential was shown by those aged 35-44.

Those belonging to this age group left more than 1.7 billion forints in Hungarian accommodation last year. Those over the age of 35 spent an average of HUF 20,000 a day on accommodation, those aged 18-34 spent HUF 10,000, while those under the age of 18 spent HUF 8,500.

While times are extremely tough on tourism right now, the hope is well-founded that once everyday life goes back to normal, foreign visits will do the same. Budapest is an exceptionally good candidate for your next travel destination.

  1. Fairly pointless running this article right now when Hungary is not on the UK green list and the UK is reconsidering travel generally because of the Indian variant spreading fast there. As for the pubs, of course Brits love them. It’s about 2000 huf or more for 1/2 litre of ordinary lager there so they are amazed at how inexpensive it is here.
