Budapest Airport passenger numbers jump in May
Passenger numbers at Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc International reached 88,800 in May, almost four times the number registered a year earlier, when the country was in pandemic lockdown, operator Budapest Airport said on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the operative board responsible for relaunching community life in Hungary after the coronavirus pandemic held its first meeting on Tuesday.
Passenger numbers were up 37 percent from April 2021, they added. Cargo volume amounted to 71,566 tonnes in January-April, up 32.8 percent from a year earlier and 30.2 percent more than in 2019, the company said.
Meanwhile,
the operative board responsible for relaunching community life in Hungary after the coronavirus pandemic held its first meeting on Tuesday.
The body, which comprises government officials, representatives of the culture and tourism sector and the National Association of Large Families, Katalin Novák, the minister for family and youth affairs who also heads the body, said after the meeting.
The first meeting focused on the reopening of the state-owned Erzsebet camps, which received a record number of applications this year, Nováksaid. The government has earmarked 500 million foints of additional funding for the camps to make sure all applicant children can be accommodated, she said.
Erzsébet camps will host 110,000 children over the ten-week summer holidays, she added. The camp sites were revamped during the coronavirus lockdown, she said.
