Shining silver and dreams come true for Hungarians in Tokyo 2020

Viktor Lőrincz missed out on the final, winning a silver medal in the 87kg weight class of greco-roman wrestling at the Tokyo Olympics.

The 31-year-old wrestler lost 5-1 to the two-time World and three-time European Champion Zhan Beleniuk of Ukraine, to whom he lost the final of the 2019 World Cup.

In the first three minutes, both wrestlers seemed cautious, but Lőrincz was more active, so after a minute the referee warned his rival. Unfortunately, Lőrincz could not take advantage of the ground position, as his opponent managed to jump to his feet.

The real fight started after the break, then both sides shifted to a higher gear, but after a minute, Lőrincz was sent to the ground. Belenyuk, on the other hand, took advantage and took a 5-1 lead with two spins. In the remaining minute and a half, Lőrincz could not fight back unfortunately.

According to M4 Sport, Lőrincz won the 12th medal of the Hungarian Olympic team in the Japanese capital, it was the fifth silver after four golds and three bronzes.

“I’m so sorry, I really wanted to win … Tomorrow I will definitely evaluate it differently. I am glad that we both got the medal (referring to Tamás Lőrincz), I just didn’t manage to get to the top.

I’m glad overall that I got the medal and can take it home to my little daughter.”

What else happened today?

The women’s handball team was defeated by the Norweigians in the quarterfinals, Anna Olasz finished in the 4th place in the 10km race for women’s open water swimming with a great performance. Moreover, all units advanced in the kayak-canoe races, while the men’s water polo made it to the semi-finals.
