Hungary population decline slows
Budapest, January 24 (MTI) – The decrease in the number of deaths outstripped the drop in the number of births in the first eleven months last year, slowing the decline in Hungary’s population, the Central Statistical Office said on Friday.
The number of births was lower between January-May and in August last year than in the corresponding periods of 2012 but in the remaining periods it was higher than a year earlier. Until end-November 81,241 children were born in Hungary, 2 percent less than the in the same period of 2012. There were 2.6 percent less deaths in the first eleven months, KSH said.
The number of marriages was up 1.9 percent annually.
