An earthquake was detected in the Hungarian Répcelak area
The earth moved at a depth of about two kilometres. In Hungary, two minor earthquakes were detected in Vas County on Saturday morning.
According to the Kövesligethy Radó Seismological Observatory of the ELKH Institute of Earth Physics and Space Science, two minor earthquakes were also felt in Hungary. The earthquakes could be felt the most in Vas County, near Répcelak, writes Hvg.
There were earthquakes of magnitude 2.9 and 2.6 on the Richter scale.
According to a report by seismologist Anett Gyarmati, the first earthquake was at 5.07 a.m., while the second earthquake was at 6.47 a.m. on Saturday morning. One of the most important natural wonders in Hungary is in grave danger
Residents in the affected area felt the earthquakes.
Although the damage is not yet known, the population has noticed the phenomenon. Several of the residents of Vas County also reported experiencing the frightening quakes.
“For us, the shutters vibrated a bit, but it was still after 7 p.m. We didn’t know what this noise was. We thought it was a gust of wind,” someone wrote.
“We felt it in Zsédeny, both at 5:07 and 6:47. We first thought the sky was thundering a lot, and then my husband soon realised it was a different kind of roar. The house was shaking,” Metropo quotes another commentator as saying.
Western Hungary shook by an earthquake – people’s accounts
Someone in Rábapaty woke up to the fact that the window was vibrating, while someone woke up falling off the bed. Most complained about the sound. The terrifying roar was thought by many to be a storm or lightning. There were also those who did not experience the signs of the earthquake themselves. However, they saw in their animals that something had happened. One commentator saw his rabbits were confused, while others saw their dogs and other pets sensing the power of the earthquake.
