At the sign of the first snow, Hungarians stormed Kékestető – PHOTOS
Seeing as it was the first weekend of December, the highest point of Hungary was full of people. Many went to the Kékestető to see the first snow of the season. The place soon ran out of parking spaces, and the police had to control the traffic due to the large crowd.
The Kékestető is full
On the first weekend of December, Hungarians went for a hike. To do so, most people chose the highest point of Hungary, the 1014-metre-high Kékestető. So many people went there that all parking spaces at Kékestető filled up.
Due to the crowd on the hill, the police had to control the traffic.
People were attracted by the snow. According to the reports, there was no snow in Mátraháza, but there was some at Kékestető. For this reason, Hungary’s highest point soon filled up with people. Authorities recommend that those who want to get to Kékestető choose public transportation. Anyone who would go by car should park around Mátraháza in the future.
“Kékestető is full again, everyone wants to see snow. Cars are rushing uphill, half an hour from Mátraháza to the top. Many people park in the woods along the road or turn around,” Kékestető writes on Facebook.
Snow expected
Based on the weather information by Időkép, more precipitation is expected in the days to come. Another Mediterranean cyclone will come over Hungary soon. As a result, people can expect everything from rain to snowfall.
Precipitation is expected to come in two major waves.
Saturday night saw the first wave. The next wave is expected on Sunday afternoon. On Saturday night, snow fell mainly in the northern parts of Hungary. By Sunday afternoon, however, we can expect precipitation all over the country, either in the form of rain or snow.
Snowfall in some areas, such as the North Hungarian Mountains, could last up to Monday. Snow is projected to fall as high as 10 centimetres. However, the maximum temperature will be above freezing in most parts of the country. So, children’s dreams will come true, and Santa can arrive in a snowy landscape tomorrow morning.
