Lawmakers passed an amendment to the law regulating supermarkets in Hungary
Lawmakers on Tuesday passed an amendment to the law regulating supermarkets which requires the retailers, from February next year, to offer food to the needy within 48 hours of its sell-by date.
The amendment passed with 138 votes in favour and 1 against.
The law applies to grocery chains whose annual net revenue exceeds 100 billion forints (EUR 272.5m).
Supermarkets will have the option of donating the food to a new state-owned nonprofit, the Food Rescue Centre, or directly to charity organisations.
They will also be required to draw up a plan to reduce their food waste and appoint a manager in charge of saving food.
Grocery chains that fail to submit their plan to the Food Rescue Centre or exceed their annual planned food waste by over 2 percent can be fined.
The law’s justification cites data from the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) indicating that around one-third of food produced for human consumption is wasted globally. According to a European Union study,
more than 5 percent of that food is wasted through retail and wholesale.
The amendment enters into effect on Feb. 1, 2022.

CONSIDER – the Government of the Day – in the amending of Laws – that moves – shifts, the need – the RESPONSIBILITIES of a Government – to EXPAND it’s ways – of FEEDING & Caring – the poor and needy that are our fellow Hungarian Citizens – expand discussions to the Holy Roman Catholic Church of Hungary.
Pope Francis – very early on in his Pontificate – made the statement that a “Poorer Church was a Holier Church.”
Pope Francis choice the name Francis after St. Francis of Assisi – who in his earthly life – born into a family of wealth, gave away all to devote and live his life amonst the poor & needy – the “earthen” people – and built & lived his Ministry – on giving, doing deeds and making the lives of those – less fortunate than him, a holier & richer life that did not have Wealth nor Richness.
Hungary – the largest land owners in Hungary – is The Holy Catholic Church of Hungary.
Hungary a population of 9.6 million.
Hungary – a population represented by 42% of it being Baptised into The Holy Roman Catholic Church.
Hungary – only approx 9% of Baptised Catholic Hungarians – attend Religious Services – but they have there reason(s) – and its there CHOICE.
Question – bit of REAL Fire Power Behind It – bit of guts and intestinal fortitude in asking the QUESTION – to the Roman Catholic Cardinal of Hungary – Peter Erdo – in his Palace in Esztergom – we know he has a reputation of “sneaking” under the radar – what about the Catholic Church in Hungary – selling off vacant properties and land ?Plenty of empty Churches, Presbyteries, and Monasteries, Convents – Religious Houses, that are just VACANT, and assisting – in making the lives of the less fortuate – a brighter and better life – through the Sale of Assets – that are NOT of Need – and not used – by the Holy Roman Catholic Church of Hungary other than be recorded as an ASSET – that appears on the Bottom line of a Ledger – as Wealth – of the Holy Roman Catholic Church in Hungary.
Cardinal Peter Erdo – what will be your Legacy in your Cardinalship time in Hungary?
Be a Man of Action and Prayer – you can Peter do both – in the name of Christ Jesus.
Carry his and our Cross – you can Peter.
The Holy Roman Catholic Church of Hungary – under the Cardinalship of Peter Erdo – Do More and be SEEN to Do More and – Make a Differance – to the lives of those less fortuate – the poor & needy.
The Church being a Poorer Church is a Holier Church – and if Pope Francis saids it – be OBEDIENT – to the Holy Father – Cardinal Erdo and – SHARE the Wealth – not expecting the Government nor businesses to wear the pain – making ALL the sacrifices in the caring of the poor & needy.
Cardinal Erdo – what when sooner than later your time is up – your Cardinalship of Hungary – what will be your Legacy ???
Tax deductibility – if the Large Supermarkets go along with this law Amendment?
Whats the “under the table” arrangement ?
If there is no – “under the table deal” – monies of support to the Opposition – to rid – Hungary of its present Government could increase SUBSTANTIALLY.
It is a good and responsible thing.
