French RTL: Marine Le Pen received millions of EUR from a Hungarian bank
According to the French RTL, Marine Le Pen received HUF 3.7 billion (EUR 10.5 million) from a Hungarian bank. The loan is for the campaign of the presidential candidate.
According to hvg.hu, neither French nor international banks wanted to support Marine Le Pen’s campaign. However, the money suddenly arrived, and the French RTL believes it came from a Hungarian bank.
The news outlet highlighted that dozens of banks refused to give a loan for the presidential campaign of Marine Le Pen. Now, her party, the National Rally, has EUR 10.6 million to spend on her campaign, in time for the April presidential elections.
The party acknowledged that it received a loan but refused to admit that the creditor was a Hungarian bank. Later, the party allegedly confirmed to Le Monde that they received the money from Hungary.
Marine Le Pen visited PM Viktor Orbán last October.
When RTL asked the party whether it was the Hungarian prime minister who helped them get the loan, they did not receive an official reply. However, an anonymous source said that the mediator was not a politician.
Referring to press reports suggesting that
Marine Le Pen, head of the French National Rally, has been granted a loan by a Hungarian bank,
Gergely Gulyás, the prime minister’s chief of staff, stated this morning that he was not aware of such a transaction. He then added that “it could be good business for any bank in the EU” in view of French regulations under which parties running in the presidential election will be reimbursed their campaign costs from central coffers if they garner the minimum number of votes.
