Double-digit price increase expected in Hungarian restaurants and hotels
Change language:
We can expect a double-digit price increase in both restaurants and hotels. An average daily menu is already a fifth more expensive than before the epidemic, while rooms in guesthouses and hotels are a third more expensive.
A double-digit price increase is coming to restaurants, according to the Industry Association (Ipartestület), as rtl.hu reported. Last year, the average price of a meal was HUF 1,320 (approx. €3.7), 20% more than in 2019.
“We can expect the same price increase this year. They have to move up at least 10-15%, maybe even 15-20% [for restaurants – ed.] to stay alive,”
says the president of the Industry Association (Ipartestület).

As we can read in SzeretlekMagyarország.hu’s article, rooms in guesthouses and hotels are also becoming more expensive. The Hotels Association says that we will still pay more than last year, even if we book our holiday in advance in February. However, of course, those who book months in advance should expect a smaller price increase.
An average double room with breakfast cost HUF 18,210 (approx. €51.4) last year. According to the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (Központi Statisztikai Hivatal, KSH), the price increase over two years was 34%.
