Hungarian soldier wanted to fight for the Russians in Ukraine – here is what happened
A former Hungarian soldier from Somogy County decided that he wanted to fight on the side of the Eastern-Ukrainian separatists to restore the former Soviet Union. Now, he is facing trials for committing war crimes.
Hvg reported the details of the indictment published by the Somogy County Prosecutor’s Office. It states that the Hungarian man with a valid address in Somogy County is accused of illegal recruitment. The man joined the illegally operating Eastern-Ukrainian paramilitary forces back in 2014.
After the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Luhansk People’s Republic were founded in Ukraine in April 2014, the Hungarian man decided to travel there and join forces with the separatists and would even fight with arms for Communism and the restoration of the “Second Soviet Union”.
Hvg writes that the man gathered the necessary information on the internet and set out on his way during the autumn of 2014. His route led him through Russia to the city of Luhansk where, according to his contract, he would be working on military bases, maintaining equipment and loading arms and crates for the paramilitary forces of the separatist people’s republic.
Later, in 2015, according to Magyarnemzet, the Hungarian man moved to the city of Donetsk and took part in a month-long military training organised by one of the armed forces of the Donetsk People’s Republic. Then, according to another contract, he would serve under a rifleman battalion and provide armed lookout.
Eventually, the man grew tired and was let down by the operation of the paramilitary groups he joined and, in 2016, he travelled to Ukraine and surrendered himself to the Ukrainian authorities, Magyar Nemzet reported.
Criminal proceedings were immediately initiated against the Hungarian man by the Ukrainian authorities, and he was charged with participating in the operation of armed groups not authorised by law.
This meant that the Hungarian authorities only started proceedings against the man after the Ukrainian proceedings ended. After a prolonged legal action, the Ukrainian authorities sent the documents to the Somogy County Attorney General’s Office in April 2022.
Magyar Nemzet wrote that, according to the information about the man, he previously served in the Hungarian military as an artilleryman. When he surrendered himself to the Ukrainian authorities in 2016, they found symbols of Communism and the Soviet Union on his person, as well as a calendar featuring Stalin.

Why isn’t that surprising? So many people here (even young) generation are stuck in the ancient-communist state of mind. You could measure it in several fields-sadness, lack of openess for new things, self pride and energy. Wonder how it will be in 10 years.
I must say, this article is the most blatantly preposterous fiction piece I have ever read anywhere. No one is that stupid. I do not for one moment believe this is anything but anti-Russian propaganda. Just because it is posted online that does not make it credible.
