Foreign national jailed for assaulting and raping a woman in Budapest
A Budapest court has sentenced a foreign national to seven years in prison for assaulting and raping a woman in the capital last summer, the Budapest Municipal Court said on Monday.
In its non-binding ruling, the Buda Central District Court also ordered the man to be expelled from Hungary for a period of six years.
According to the ruling, the defendant struck up a conversation with the victim on the corner of Krisztina Boulevard and Csaba Street in downtown Budapest as she was on her way home on the night of June 18.
The man followed the woman before assaulting and raping her.
The court took into account as a mitigating circumstance the fact that the defendant provides care for a young child. Meanwhile, his prior criminal record and the fact that he had committed the offence while under criminal investigation were counted as aggravating factors.
