Budapest Airport moves into Minipolisz!
Airport opens in the center of Budapest – Budapest Airport opened a 120 square meter airport playground at Minipolisz, on Király Street. From the last day of May, children will be able to try themselves as airport workers at the mini-city, where the airport environment will be complemented by a duty free shop, completing the air travel experience.
On 31 May, Budapest Airport’s 120 m2 play area opened at Minipolisz, on Király Street. Minipolisz is a magical city for children, in the heart of Budapest. In this mini-world, everyday life is turned upside down for a few hours, and any child can become a shop assistant, cashier, postman, crane operator, banker, florist, car mechanic and now even an airport worker.
On the opening day, Budapest Airport, Heinemann Duty Free Budapest and Minipolisz wanted to provide an unforgettable airport experience to children and adults alike, so the opening was attended by kindergarten and school groups from the districts and municipalities around the airport, as well as residents of the Gyöngyvirág Children’s Home in Budapest District XVIII.

For Budapest Airport, it is of utmost importance to be present in people’s lives and to keep them informed about the airport’s rules and regulations, procedures, operations and activities. One of the most important pillars of the company’s CSR strategy is education, which aims to raise awareness and inform society about issues affecting the airport. The stand at Minipolisz is a great opportunity for children to get to know the airport operator from an early age and to learn the rules of travel in a playful way.
At the stations of the mini airport, children aged 5-10 can learn about different airport processes and jobs in an interactive, playful way. The three main airport stations – check-in, security screening, waiting and boarding gate – are complemented by a mini duty free shop, courtesy of Heinemann Duty Free Budapest, which completes the airport experience for children.

“We think it is important that future generations learn about airport operations and air travel from an early age, in a playful way. The stand at Minipolisz provides an excellent opportunity for children to enjoy coming to the airport as passengers, or even as employees, when they grow up. We want all children and their accompanying parents and teachers to experience the magical world of the airport. We are delighted that, thanks to Heinemann Duty Free Budapest, we can offer a mini duty free shop and a complete airport experience for visitors to Minipolisz,”
said Katalin Valentínyi, Director of Corporate Communications and Government Relations for Budapest Airport.
“The world of travel, exploring unknown landscapes and learning about different cultures is an exciting adventure for young and old alike. Gebr. Heinemann is a family-owned global business, with a mission to turn travel time into valuable time for the travelers who enter our stores. After all, for children, the series of unforgettable experiences begin at the airport, and they can share their joy with the people they love most. This is exactly how we think of our cooperation with Minipolisz and Budapest Airport, which gives people of all ages the opportunity to immerse themselves in this play world and reach the farthest corners of the earth in their imaginations,”
commented Ildikó Jankovich, the Managing Director of Magyar Duty Free Kft.
“The Mini Airport is another milestone in the life of MiniPolisz! It is always a great honor for us to welcome a new partner on board at MiniPolisz, because it confirms our more than 10 years of work. Our mission is to give families a lot of new information and experiences as they play together, which they can use in real life. Learning by playing is a process that works very well in the context of travel experiences as well. With the arrival of BUD and Heinemann Duty Free, the area of MiniPolisz has also expanded, with a newly opened, 120 m2 area, where, in addition to the airport experience, we also have a baby corner for the smallest ones,” revealed Xénia Máté, the owner of MiniPolisz.
