Hungary defeats England in Nations League! – PHOTOS
Hungary defeated England in the UEFA Nations League in Budapest with Dominik Szoboszlai’s penalty. The final result was 1-0, so Hungary started the tournament with an unexpected victory. The last time Hungary could defeat England on a non-friendly match was in 1962. Congratulations to the national team!
According to infostart.hu, more than 30 thousand children cheered for the Hungarian team today in the Puskás Aréna, Budapest. Interestingly, the Hungarian Football Association (MLSZ) was hit with a five-match supporter ban because of racist abuse during last year’s European Championship. However, the MLSZ found a loophole in the UEFA rules allowing children under 14 to enter the stadium. That is what happened today in the Puskás Aréna and, surprisingly, the English national team was booed by the kids (and their parents) when they took the knee at the beginning of the match.

This was the first match for Hungary in the 3rd Nations League. In the 2018-2019 and 2021-2022 UEFA Nations League, the Hungarian team could not advance from its group.

On a yesterday press conference Hungary defender Ádám Lang spoke of, amongst other things, the national team having made progress in the recent past and the players wanting to maintain the organised, stable defence which now characterises the team, while also keeping the ball more.
“We want to prove we’ve evolved. Everyone is looking forward to the next match – it will be a serious challenge, but it’s good to play against such opponents!
We can test ourselves; I think that’s how everyone in the team thinks. I feel good and it’s always a pleasure to join up with the national team. The mood is good, but there’s not been any problem with this in the last few years, and this is essential for us to be able to perform well on the pitch in all four Nations League matches“, Lang concluded.

I hope that the loophole is closed. It is disgusting behaviour by the Hungarian spectators and the children booing were no doubt egged on by the adults that accompanied them. It Hungary cannot host a football match without disrespecting the visiting team from another nation, then no spectators should be allowed until Hungarians spectators learn some manners.
So the Orbanjugend attended with their brown shirt parents. How nice. Hungary really is sinking lower and lower.

The Hungary -England match had an audience of just 27%. Not that many people in the UK gave a flying fig about that match, they had more important and interesting things to watch. By the way, the England Team was the B team, not the A team.
Children have every right to express their displeasure at the behavior of a foreign soccer team. It is not the duty of the UK soccer team to educate Hungarian children, their duty was to play a good and fair game and entertain the audience. Kneeling started by a publicity seeking American NFL player and many followed the example. Those who were kneeling in the US have actually given up the nonsense and their audience that shunned the kneelers returned. The British team should have learned their lesson. Sports are suppose to entertain and political statements and their political problems and statements should be left home.

@marievontheresa, children and adults have no right to be rude to sports players. It is called manners. Have you, personally not learned anything in Canada?
Why should Hungarian children tolerate a behavior which is highly inappropriate in Hungary. Hungary did not participate in slavery, did not exploit colonized countries. Hungarians were not guilty of the criminal, George Floyd’s death. The English team would do better to protest the bad behavior of their fan where the unruly behavior often end in deaths.
Hungary has free speech and that applies to children.
Hungary was one of the 1st countries to speak out against slavery in general. Just as it was the 1st country to start dismantling The Wall….which eventually the German people did in a more public, big way. Was it after someone asked “what would happen if everyone started damaging The Wall?” And reality set in?
All that aside, yes sport fans anywhere can be A-holes in their behavior. In some places they burn vehicles & smash & loot the businesses and homes of people who have NO SKIN IN THE GAME, yet suffer high consequences. That a team has started to put specific political ideology that the majority of people do not condone or practice is repulsive. The coach of the British team should have educated the players in this regard. Most of us blv. that ALL lives matter, have fundamental value and that as societies have progressed, we have become more self aware. A sport field is not the place to shove social consciousness down throats.
I am sure that the kids all had a wonderful time, good on them to be interested in sport.
Maple Syrup: Yes Canadians are generally more polite as a rule. They are also backstabbing, vicious in workplaces though. And although they love to spend spend spend on name brand sport clothing, They have yet to learn to stand tall for the anthem or learn the words. They lack the abiltiy to practice respect and a high level of patriotism. Except when we travel. Then we shove that little flag symbol of the red maple leaf down everyone’s throats.
