A self-service baggage drop-off facility opened on 13 June at Kálvin Square in Budapest, where passengers can now print their bag tags easily and simply for certain flights, provided they have a valid boarding pass.
Baggage tagging is available for Wizzair, Air France-KLM, Norwegian and Aegean passengers, enabling them to avoid queuing at the airport and to drop off their baggage themselves at the drop-off counters at the airport.
At Kálvin Square, it is also possible to print the boarding pass and to check in for certain flights.
Budapest Airport is doing its utmost to simplify and speed up airport processes, giving passengers a more comfortable airport experience. One of these innovations, ahead of many European airports, is that from this summer, for the first time, it will be possible to check in and print the bag tag off-airport, at one of the busiest points of the capital, close to the bus stop of line 100E, which operates to the airport. Budapest Airport’s aim with this innovation is to
minimize queuing at the airport,
thereby increasing the airport’s throughput and speeding up processes.
Ferenc Liszt International Airport has achieved a high score in the ASQ international passenger satisfaction survey for the second quarter, largely due to improvements in terminal management. The average waiting time for security screening is always under 15 minutes, thanks in part to the fact that small electrical devices do not need to be removed from hand baggage before screening.
The speed of the check-in process at the airport is also supported by the 24 bag tag printers located in the departure halls of Terminals 2A and 2B.
Ryanair passengers can now check in at both terminals from May, and Budapest Airport’s terminal information staff are also on hand, to help ensure quick passage through the airport.
New nursing rooms and stroller storage facilities in the terminal
At the end of May, Budapest Airport opened and handed over 4 more nursing rooms in the terminal buildings, where parents can take care of their babies in a private environment, with all the necessary amenities.
Each room is equipped with an armchair, a closet and a changing table, as well as a microwave oven for those who wish to heat up meals for their children.
The airport operator has also made free strollers available in the terminals, to ensure that passengers with young children can move around the airport with their toddlers comfortably and easily. The free strollers can be used after security screening, until boarding. The terminals have a total of 4 stroller storage facilities and 12 strollers, which the operator will expand in the future as required.
Post-epidemic record: more than 1 million passengers in May
Ferenc Liszt International Airport reached its highest passenger volume in two years in May, with passenger traffic exceeding 1 million during the fifth month of the year. To be precise, 1,095,597 passengers used Budapest Airport in May, an increase of 1130% compared to the same period in 2021. There are currently direct flights from Budapest to 125 airports in 114 cities, served by 34 airlines. In May,
the most popular destinations were London, Paris, Tel Aviv, Amsterdam and Frankfurt, but Barcelona and Munich were also very popular.
Despite the negative international trends, cargo traffic at Ferenc Liszt International Airport remained stable in May at more than 15,000 tons per month. In the first five months of the year, the airport handled 84 000 tons of air cargo in total, a 17% increase compared to the same period in 2021.

BUD is one of the few airports in the world where finding a luggage cart is almost IMPOSSIBLE. Having used it dozens of times, I never saw where they do keep the few carts available. So get ready to schlep your luggage everywhere. But…now you have a microwave,so that should make the trip easier.BTW,the airport luggage tag machines almost never work. The Kalvin ter idea is nice, but do not count on it.And security still ask you to take off your shoes, the ONLY airport to do so.WHY?
