Price freeze: several Hungarian petrol stations have run out of fuel
Supply shortages occurred on Saturday: there were OMV stations in Hungary where not all types fuel were available during the day.
According to RTL Híradó, from the beginning of next week, MOL’s refinery in Százhalombatta will be back to full production capacity. The company did not say whether the shutdown due to Tuesday’s fire had caused any difficulties in servicing petrol stations.
Supply shortages
On Saturday, supply was disrupted at several OMV wells in Budapest, even though the government had already opened up reserves to the company. On Friday, Minister Gergely Gulyás said he does not rule out that there could be problems, but the country had enough fuel in reserve for months, so Hungarian drivers need not worry.
According to the petrol station staffs, they waited for the delivery, but it never came.
The government had already opened up the reserves for OMV last week, but RTL Híradó still did not get an answer as to why there is not enough fuel everywhere.
More fuel is going to be consumed
As we can read in the article of nlc.hu, in summer, tourism and agricultural work mean that up to 30-40% more fuel is consumed than at the beginning of the year. This is now further compounded by a significant fall in foreign fuel imports.
According to holtankoljak.hu, drivers should also be prepared: with the start of the agricultural work, there is already a wave of buying up by farmers, so we can expect to see limited quantities at more and more petrol stations.
Supply is not 100% guaranteed, but no need to panic
One OMV station in Budapest ran out of the more expensive premium petrol on Saturday, while others ran out of the official-priced petrol.
“In the current situation, it is not responsible to say that the supply is 100% guaranteed,”
said Gergely Gulyás.
“If necessary, by using the strategic reserve, we do not have to expect a deficit for months, six months, a year,”
he added.
OMV is in a difficult situation because an accident at the refinery in Schwechat forced an extended shutdown. Therefore, apart from the reserves released, they can only buy from Mol.
