Speed limits may apply in several Budapest districts!
Speed limits may be introduced not only in the Terézváros district of Budapest, but also in three other districts. As a result, the maximum speed limit will be 30 kilometres per hour.
The capital’s municipality is preparing a traffic calming plan, Népszava reports. The comprehensive strategy could be ready by autumn. “In summer, it’s easy to close roads, divert traffic, build tram lines and replace utilities. But everything has to be finished by the start of school, or else there will be a mass panic,” said Zoltán ErÅ‘, Budapest’s chief architect.

According to the chief architect, the quayside dispute is part of a change in transport attitudes in major European cities. The Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) is already drawing up a traffic calming plan. BKK is collecting suggestions from the districts.
“Drawing on the experience of the model traffic calming projects launched in recent years, BKK will prepare a comprehensive strategy this autumn,” BKK said.
Two years ago, the plan for traffic restrictions was already on the agenda of the Municipal Assembly. According to this plan, the capital wants to achieve traffic calming for the whole city. This would include reduced speed zones, one-way streets and larger pavements, Telex.hu writes.
