Attention: traffic restrictions in Budapest due to 20 August celebrations
Traffic restrictions can be expected from Monday onwards due to preparatory works for the 20 August celebrations in Budapest.
The Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) has promised to keep everyone informed about changes affecting public transport. According to their announcement, the lower quay of Buda between Rákóczi Bridge and Margaret Bridge will be closed from Monday for a whole week (until 6 AM on 22 August) and between 22 and 25 August every night between 10 PM and 6 AM the next morning.
The lower quay of Pest between Chain Bridge and Közraktár Street will be closed every night until Friday. Then from Friday 8 PM until 6 AM on 22 August, and between 10 PM on 22 August and 6 AM the next morning, writes Világgazdaság.
There will also be continuous restrictions for a week due to the Buda Castle celebrations: Tárnok Street will be closed all the time, and there will be no access to the Castle from the Dísz Square.
Lánchíd Street will also be closed from 6 AM on Wednesday until 10 PM on 22 August, and Andrássy Street will be closed at Kodály körönd from 10 PM on Wednesday and Thursday until 4 AM the following day.
Restrictions will affect buses 16A and 116, night bus 916, buses 105, 178, 109, 979 and 990, and trams 41, 19, 2, 2B and 2M.
BKK has promised more detailed information on further restrictions and traffic arrangements on 20 August for this week.
