Parking fees to increase again in Budapest!
Parking fees will increase again in several districts of Budapest following the latest decision of the municipal council. As we reported before, the general assembly of the capital decided in June to replace the former complicated parking system involving 27 zones with a clear and uniform system involving four zones while introducing higher parking fees. Those higher fees will be increased again in some districts. Below you may read the details.
According to index.hu, parking will be more expensive in the 2nd and 11th districts. Furthermore, in the 8th district, the parking fee for the garage at Rákóczi Square has been increased. The general assembly of Budapest decided on the relevant modifications of the capital’s decree on parking on Thursday with only one Nay and 29 Yes votes.
In the 2nd district, the territory bordered by the following streets will be in the C zone from 1 January 2023: Gábor Áron utca – Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor – Lotz Károly utca – Pasaréti út – Gábor Áron utca – Pusztaszeri út (including the service road segment of the Felső Zöldmáli Street) – Alsó Zöldmáli út – Pusztaszeri út – Csejtei utca – Józsefhegyi utca – Szemlőhegy utca – Áldás utca – Eszter utca – Alsó Törökvész út – Bimbó út – Alvinci út – Lévay utca – Fillér utca – Lórántffy Zsuzsanna utca – Hermann Ottó utca – Radna utca – Pasaréti út. Meanwhile, Szépvölgyi út 52–66 will be in the B zone. Those modifications mean that drivers will have to pay more for parking there.
Furthermore, because of the initiative of the mayor of the 11th district (Újbuda), Etele Square and its neighbourhood will be in the C zone due to the extra traffic generated by the shopping centre. As a result, we will have to pay HUF 100 higher parking fees in every hour. That is because parking is more expensive in the mall. Therefore, shoppers leave their cars in public spaces, making it impossible for the residents to find free parking lots.
Moreover, the Budapest municipal council decided to increase the parking fee of the Rákóczi Square underground car park since earlier it cost half the amount of the nearby public spaces. After some preliminary decisions, the P+R car park near the Kelenföld railway station will not remain free.
However, during the long weekend between 29 October and 1 November, you will not have to pay for parking in most places in Budapest. The only exceptions are the Buda Castle District, the Northern parking lot of Margaret Island and a segment of the Szilágyi Erzsébet fasor between the Pázsit and Házmán streets in the 2nd district.
