Serious changes are coming to Budapest, affecting almost all public transport users. Many people travel on the M3 metro every day. The fact that it is under renovation has not changed this. Now, passengers are getting two metro stations back in January. Read on to learn the details.
We are getting Deák Ferenc Square and Ferenciek Square back
The handover procedures will start within days at the Deák Ferenc Square and Ferenciek Square stations. The mechanical and electrical equipment is already operational and the testing of the heat and smoke extraction systems has been successfully completed. Renovation work is still ongoing at four other locations: Lehel Square, Nyugati railway station, Arany János Street, Nagyvárad Square stations. The final touches are being put to the installation of the lifts on Dózsa György Street.
Nagyvárad Square and Lehel Square have to be completed in a year
“Since the beginning of the reconstruction, Nagyvárad Square and Lehel Square have played a key role in maintaining passenger traffic, as this is where trains have turned around. The two stations were only closed in May this year, so they will need to be renewed in a year. There are still a number of tasks to be completed in the operational areas, but the passenger areas are already showing signs of change, with the paving elements giving a hint of the future look of the stations,” the Budapest Transport Company (BKV Zrt.) said in a statement.
