Judit Polgár, the best female player of all time, was inducted into the Chess Hall of Fame at a ceremony in St. Louis on Saturday evening, MTI reported.

The chess legend, Judit Polgár

“It is a recognition of decades of work, which includes my achievements as a chess player, as well as my work in promoting the use of chess as an educational tool and encouraging women’s orientation towards chess,” Judit Polgár said in her speech, according to her management. The chess player also said that we should continue working to ensure that more and more girls experience the beauty and benefits of chess, Telex writes.

“I take every opportunity to convey the message to girls and those around them: strive to make the most of your talents. If we don’t limit girls, if we encourage and inspire them to persevere and build their confidence, they can succeed in any area of life,” she said at the ceremony.

Polgár’s achievements

Shannon Bailey, the institution’s chief curator, described Judit Polgár as inspiring, but also impressive for her efforts to promote chess and her commitment to breaking down barriers for girls and women. Judit Polgár (46) won the 1988 and 1990 Chess Olympics as a member of the Hungarian women’s team.

Later in her career, she competed exclusively with men, becoming the only female player to reach over 2700 Live Points. In 2004, she was a career-high eighth in the world rankings. She announced her retirement in 2014. Members of the Chess Hall of Fame are nominated by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) on the basis of their impact on the sport, the first being former world champion Bobby Fischer of the United States, who was immortalised in 2001.
