Buda Castle reconstruction presented at new visitor centre
A visitor centre presenting the ongoing reconstruction of the Buda Castle with architectural models and digital displays opened in the Hunyadi Courtyard on Monday.
The exhibition presents preparatory work and more than 100,000 archived documents researched so far in connection with the project, Robert Gutowski, the project’s chief architect, said at the opening.
Krisztina Sikota, the deputy director of the Castle District Directorate for tourism, culture and communications, said the visitor centre provides up-to-date information about the reconstruction process and programmes in the Castle District. Tickets for these programmes are also sold at the centre.
The Buda Castle and Castle District reconstruction is being carried out under the government’s National Hauszmann Plan. As part of the scheme, the St Stephen’s Hall in the Castle Building has reopened, visited by 110,000 people in the past year and a half, she said.
The wing of the palace facing Szent György’s Square will be the reception building of the complex, with an ornate main entrance and a ramp leading down. After the restoration, there will again be a direct and unobstructed connection between Szent György’s Square and Hunyadi Courtyard, he said.
According to the Deputy Director General, the reception building will also provide access to the ceremonial hall, which will run parallel to the Danube after the reconstruction.
Work will also continue next year on DÃsz tér and Szent György tér: the reconstruction of the former Red Cross Headquarters, the Defence Headquarters and the Archduke Joseph Palace is also progressing well.

Its ALL slowly coming to-gether and will be delightful when completed.
Buda Castle – we have a magnificent historical ICON of Europe, the views alone are “special” – that “draws” tourists to visit it.
IMPORTANCE must be paid to ensure in front of these buildings there HISTORY say of course in Hungarian but English and possible another language.
In watching the re-developement – re-building and re-construction of these historic Hungarian buildings – appreciation must be RIGHTFULLY paid to all – who have and are still working on the projects currently in process.
Thank-You.
