Huge investment: Romania-Hungary cross-border cooperation
Financing for cross-border cooperation between Romania and Hungary will amount to HUF 70 billion (EUR 182.4 million) in the period up to 2027, according to an announcement on Thursday.
Interreg projects implemented through the European Regional Development Fund with European Union and government funding by the two states are aimed at creating a greener and more cohesive cross-border region, the government office of Hajdú-Bihar County said on its website.
In the 2021-2027 period, Arad (Arad), Bihor (Bihar), Satu Mare (Szatmár) and Timis (Temes) counties in Romania, and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg, Hajdú-Bihar, Békés and Csongrád-Csanád counties in Hungary can apply for funding in three areas.
Fully HUF 23 billion (EUR 59.9 million) is available for promoting the use of renewable energy sources and the protection of nature and biological diversity, while HUF 39 billion (EUR 101.6 million) is available for improving access to health care and promoting culture and sustainable tourism. Almost HUF 8 billion (EUR 20.8 million) will go towards increasing cross-border cooperation.
