A popular Netflix series is filmed in Hungary

The Netflix series, The Last Kingdom is filmed in the Budapest agglomeration, in Páty and Etyek. The set was built for weeks, the filmmakers worked for months until the final season of the world-famous series was put together. 

Hungary is a popular filming location

The filming location of Fenyves in Páty and the surrounding hilly area is quite sought-after among filmmakers. Páty is not only a beloved filming location due to its beautiful scenery but also due to its proximity to Budapest. It is easily accessible through the M1 highway. Therefore, several Hollywood movies were shot here, for example, Hercules (2014), which was filmed with approximately 500 Hungarian extras.

Mediakft.hu wrote last year, that a monumental set is being built on the border of Biatorbágy and Páty for the 5th season of Last Kingdom, which can be seen on Netflix. Then, they reported that next to the huge castle, smaller houses were also being erected.

There are Hungarian supporting actors in the Netflix series

Certain scenes of the series were recorded at the Korda studio in Etyek, or at the Dobogókő in Pilis, but of course, a great deal of filming was also done in the UK, since the story takes place in medieval England, writes budapestkornyeke.hu. The British audience saw the adaptation of Bernard Cornwell’s historical novel Les Histoires saxonnes for the first time in 2015. Back in the day, it was solely produced by BBC, but from the second season, Netflix also joined the series, which is why it is available in many countries.

In addition to Hungarian extras, Hungarian side characters also appear in the costumed historical series. They are secondary from the point of view of the story, however, they are needed for smaller roles or to form crowds.

The series will be available on Netflix from April 14

The British show shot with many Hungarian extras will debut on Netflix on 14 April. If you have keen eyes, you might be able to spot the slopes of the Buda Mountains and the area of Páty and Etyek in the movie.
