Political Speeches On March 15 – Vona (Jobbik)
Budapest, March 15 (MTI) – What Hungarians want is freedom, and the radical nationalist Jobbik party wants to win the upcoming general election on order to “revive” the country, Jobbik leader Gabor Vona told a March 15 rally in Budapest today.
Addressing the crowd, Vona asked whether Hungarians were free if “they are expected to work as Europeans, pay European prices, but feel like Vietnamese when they receive their wages”. Hungary does not have factories of its own, the country “works as a slave for others” and “hundreds of thousands” of Hungarians are “fleeing the country”.
“We are not free and we want a real economic freedom fight”, Vona said and suggested that economic war of independence ruling Fidesz advocated was “more about [prime minister] Viktor Orban’s power politics than anything to do with the Hungarian nation”.
“Freedom is still alive in our hearts and a spark will be enough for the grandchildren of Attila and sons of Arpad to demonstrate their strength,” Vona said in his address. “We will not change for the sake of Gyurcsanys or Orbans … we will never become a colony,” he insisted.
In his address, Vona referred to his grandfather, who had been “ready to die for Transylvania” and said that he would also “proudly die for the nation” if that were his fate.
