Scenic tram line returns to Budapest
According to infostart.hu, 2M tram started operation because of the M3 metro revamp in November 2020. The line provided an alternative for passengers who could not use the underground in the past few years. Furthermore, since it commuted in some of the most beautiful parts of Budapest’s downtown, including the Parliament or the Danube bank, it was also a favourite of the tourists. The line partially joined tram lines number 2 and 24.
The good news is that the revamp of the M3 metro line will finish on 20 March. After that, Budapest’s most crowded subway will commute on the entire line between Kőbánya-Kispest and Újpest-Központ metro stations, though it will not stop on Nagyvárad Square and Lehel Square since the renovation work has not finished there yet. The other good news is that even though tram line 2M was created to provide an alternative during the metro renovation, it will not terminate operation, BKK, Budapest’s transport company, said.

Excellent news about pedestrianizing the Pest side of the Danube River. They need to figure out the stretch between Szabadsag and Erzsebet bridges on the Buda side, too: The scooterati and especially cyclists tear down the sidewalk there like total a…….s and make walking next-to impossible. Fellow peds, who don’t know how to walk like normal human beings and make space for others coming from the opposite direction, don’t help things either!
