Considerable changes in Budapest’s public transport from today
The Budapest Transport Company (BKK) announced that from 1 April, five types of tickets and passes would discontinue because of the lack of interest. Furthermore, the price for Budapest’s airport shuttle bus (100E) goes higher, which is the second time BKK increased it in just 10 months. Meanwhile, Budapest’s famous rack railway is in operation again, but the capital’s scenic metro line M1 will not serve passengers on two weekends in April.
Public transport in Budapest significantly changes
According to ripost.hu, BKK said they would terminate five types of tickets and passes from today. We will no longer buy a 5/30 BKK travelcard, seven-day Budapest-travelcard, short section metro ticket for up to three stops, transfer ticket, and Budapest-pass 1-week supplement. The company said these ticket and travelcard types were not popular among passengers.
Furthermore, the ticket price for Budapest’s airport shuttle 100E will increase considerably from HUF 1,500 to HUF 2,200 (EUR 5.8). That is the second time BKK raised that fee in only ten months period. Moreover, Budapest’s rack railway returned to service today, and BKK promised it would commute more silently and reliably thanks to its renewed railway line. Based on the plans, during the summer an open nostalgia rack railway will commute between the Városmajor and the Széchenyi-hegy stops.
Metro line M1 changes operation
According to MTI, Budapest’s scenic M1 metro line commuting between the Vörösmarty Square and the Mexikói Street will not serve passengers on two weekends between the Mexikói Street and Oktogon stops. That is 2/3rd of its line. BKK highlighted that the reason behind the modification is track maintenance. As a result, passengers may take metro replacement buses between those two stops on 1 and 2 April and on 15 and 16 April.
People can hop on the bus on Andrássy Street , on the side of the Heroes’ Square in the Eötvös Street station. On the other end, you may take the bus at the exit of the M1 metro station. The metro replacement bus will use the stops of the night line 979 on Andrássy street. In Heroes’ Square and the Dózsa György Street, it will stop at the station of the 105 bus, while at the Széchenyi bath, it will use the stops of the 72 trolley bus to both directions. BKK recommended bus lines 105 and 5 as alternatives during the maintenance work.
