DK submits amendment proposal ‘aimed at unlocking EU funds’
The opposition Democratic Coalition (DK) has submitted to parliament an amendment proposal “aimed at unlocking Hungary’s European Union funds”, the party’s MP said on Monday.
Speaking at an online press conference, Gergely Arató said that the government had promised last year that parliament would pass a series of bills aimed at addressing the European Commission’s concerns over corruption and the state of the rule of law by March 31.
“The deadline has expired, but they haven’t submitted or passed anything,” Arató said.
He said the amendment proposal submitted by DK would “restore the independence of the judiciary and the Constitutional Court”.
It also prohibits politicians from sitting on boards of trustees of universities, creates the conditions for Hungary to join the European Public Prosecutor’s Office and facilitates the investigation of corruption cases, he said.
As we wrote today, a delegation of the Budget Control Committee of the European Parliament (EP) will visit Hungary between 15-17 May, details HERE.
