Hungarian licence plates will change every year – but why?
Hungarian licence plates changed last July. Now, it emerged that every year, a new combination will be used to start the number plates issued.
On 1 July 2022, Hungary introduced its new licence plates. For four-letter and three-digit plates, the first two characters can only contain two vowels or two consonants. However, the first pair of characters, AA, is not even finished yet, and the first AE identifiers have already started to be issued, Telex reports.
The National Infocommunication Service Provider (NISZ) Zrt. wrote to Vezess.hu that in the case of new and used vehicles, the date of registration can be visually identified. That means that with every new year, new combinations will emerge on licence plates.
In 2024, the second character of the number plate will be changed again: number plates starting with AI will be added.
