Foreign minister Szijjártó: NATO is becoming an anti-China bloc

Change language:

NATO should not turn into an anti-China bloc, Péter Szijjártó, the foreign minister, said in Brussels on Wednesday, adding that mutually beneficial cooperation was preferable to rivalry.

“We haven’t entered, neither do we want to enter … competition between China and Europe or China and Hungary,” according to a ministry statement quoting Szijjártó as saying at a press conference after a meeting of NATO foreign ministers. He said relations should not be spoken of in military terms.

Mutually beneficial cooperation should embrace “the automotive revolution”, he said, noting that European manufacturers had become dependent on South Korean and Chinese batteries.

Szijjártó said political decisions had been made in Brussels regarding the car industry, vital to Europe’s economic future, in the direction of the industry’s radical renewal. “There are too many interests by now for this transition not to be successful,” he said.

  1. Dear Mr. Szijjártó – help me, please. Which Chinese battery manufacturers are currently actually already producing in Europe?

Also – Mr. Macron and Mrs. Von Der Leyen are visiting Mr. Xi Ping – on a mission, if you will ( Mr. Szijjártó should be happy with that development – he iss all about meeting everyone and “keeping the channels open”):

  2. Sounds like the choice is up to Hungary. You can support EU and NATO or Russia and China. NATO is a defensive alliance. Russia and China are both attempting to take territory from surrounding countries. Time to decide is now.

  4. Very poor take by Secretary Szijjártó. China is not a benign bystander. It is fixing to form a new socio-polito-economic bloc and pursue a global hegemony under its authority. And if you think America bombing countries into freedom and democracy has been bad, just wait until China bankrupts them into its version of extreme statist tyranny instead.
