Budapest airport receives prestigious international rating
The Budapest Liszt Ferenc International airport, the main hub for air travel in Hungary was just awarded a new, prestigious title. The International WELL Building Institute has deemed it appropriate to give the airport the Well Health-Safety Rating certificate.
But what does this mean in practice? The rating implies that the operator of the building does everything in their capacity to guarantee the safety and wellbeing of both its employees and travelers alike, airportal.hu writes.
The examination procedure
Budapest Airport Zrt. recently announced the great news. They reminded us that many of the measures taken during the COVID-19 pandemic remained in practice to this day. In addition, they also highlighted the fact that our constructed environment affects our personal health greatly. It was for this reason that they upgraded their practices to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for the customers. It was only after having taken the necessary steps that the company applied for the Well-Health Safety Rating certificate.
To recieve this prestigious title, Budapest Airport had to go through a strict accreditation procedure. This examination process spreads throughout five different fields of operations. It mainly includes cleaning and disinfection mechanisms, emergency programs, healthcare services, but also air and water quality management. Finally, they also take into consideration the participation of the parties involved and the communication between them.

Budapest Airport: Prime European example
This certificate is usually awarded to buildings such as hotels and office buildings. Budapest Airport is one of the few air transport hubs which applied for the title and managed to get it. In addition, it is the first of its counterparts to earn this rating on the European continent.
The deputy CEO of the company, László Eiszrich had given us some insight into the background proceedings. He claimed that during the certification process, they had to meet many strict expectations. They examined, for example, not only the cleanliness of the terminals, and the quality of air and water, but also the strategies drawn up by the airport in case of an emergency.
“I am proud, that we stood our ground during the inspection. This shows, that our airport is completely safe,”
Eiszrich said.
This recently granted certificate acknowledges the airport’s commitment to prioritise the health safety and protection of customers and employees alike. These measures are also in accordance with the guidelines and protocols of several other international organisations specialised in air travel, such as ICAO, EASA, ECDC, and ACI Europe.
