Hungarians earn the least in the EU, after Romanians and Bulgarians

According to Eurostat data, companies spend the third least on Hungarian workers in the EU. This means that Hungarians earn the least, after Romanians and Bulgarians, the vice-president of the Democratic Coalition (DK) said at an online press conference on Tuesday.

László Varju said that the wages of Hungarian workers have “fallen to Balkan or even Asian standards” during the past 13 years of the Orbán government, mti.hu reports. Romanians and Bulgarians are slowly earning more than Hungarians in their own country, while wages offered in Hungary are mostly only acceptable for Asian guest workers, he added.

For this reason, Hungarians who want to live in European prosperity, who want to move forward, are forced to go abroad to work, the MEP said.

  1. Yes, but the cost of living in Hungary is also among the lowest in Europe. A German may earn five times more than a Hungarian, but he also pays five times more for gas, electric, food, rent, etc. These comparisons of salaries are therefore meaningless on their own.

  2. A Germa does NOT pay 5X for food, gas amd electricity. They do probably travel more and have nicer cars.
