VIDEO: Boat burns to ashes within seconds on Lake Balaton
In just six seconds, flames engulfed a boat on Lake Balaton. The boat had just refuelled and was carrying three passengers. Miraculously, they managed to escape. You can watch the video of the burning boat at the end of this article.
A freshly refuelled boat caught fire on Lake Balaton at Balatonkenes, and burst into flames in just 6 seconds. Three people were on board, a woman and two men. They were rescued by a vet and a harbour master, who managed to suppress the flames enough to allow them to escape to another boat, Blikk reports.
The vessel was reportedly filled with 200 litres of fuel shortly before the fire started. Its engine exploded on the water. It is not known what caused the technical failure.
“Our boat was in the same harbour, I was just there when I heard the wailing and cries for help from nearby,”
veterinarian Csaba Juhász said, who immediately rushed to the aid of the survivors.
Csaba Juhász passed the exam last year, which gives him the right to drive the service motorboat in the harbour. Accompanied by a harbour master and a fire extinguisher bottle, he immediately jumped in and approached the boat, which was by then a huge vessel spewing black smoke.
By the time the doctor and his companion arrived, the three passengers had already tried to control the fire with three fire extinguishers, but to no avail. Juhász and the harbour master also used their own equipment, which only managed to extinguish the flames for seconds, before they started up again.
“The three passengers on board were in shock, one man even tried to go back to the cabin to get his keys, while toxic fumes from burning plastic billowed everywhere. Eventually we managed to order them into our own boat. Six seconds later, everything was engulfed in fire,” the doctor recalled.
“It all happened in just seconds, a boat can burn terribly fast,” said the doctor, who was thanked after the rescue not only by the rescued passengers but also by the lifeguards.
