Justice minister: EP working to hinder Hungary EU presidency
The European Parliament is preparing to vote on a resolution concerning Hungary next week, Justice Minister Judit Varga said on Facebook on Wednesday, adding that the document served to hinder Hungary in taking over the rotating presidency in 2024.
“We shall not allow an opportunity like that to be taken from Hungary!” she said.
Member states’ rights to the rotating presidency of the European Council are decided in a unanimous vote, Varga said.
The EP has no say in the matter, Varga said. “Those with real weight on the matter have never even contemplated the idea that Hungary should not be allowed to fulfil its role. We are in daily contact with the Council, and preparing for the task,” she said.
The presidency will be an excellent opportunity for Hungary to spread its views in other member states, and also to shape Europe’s future, Varga said.
Hungary’s focus will be the future of demographic challenges, competitiveness and cohesion policy, she said.

Well to quote a well known person…due to the war nextdoor and the safety of journalists and teachers the EU will not hold the council in Hungary. There for making a president in lagal jargon.. but I think they should come and go to all the eu funded canopy walks to see for themselves where all the hard earned eu and hungarian tax maoney is being spent and to take the public transport and see the lovely bus stops which house the fidesz posters of unity ,joke,
Maybe just an idea live on a Hungarian teachers wage for the time they are here..
Does Hungary need to be in the EU? It is time to reconsider the membership.
I can’t believe I agree with mariavontheresa but for different reasons. The EU would be much better off without Hungary. Hungary would be economic toast outside the EU and dictator Orban knows it and has said it himself. Hungary will stay in the EU as a perpetual sabotaging Kremlin mole inside the organization working for European division while sucking off the EU teat. At the moment, however, the EU milk is not flowing well for Orban.
@Fish:
Thank you for the grin that your comment brought upon my 🙁 face.
..Agree with all you wrote.
We deserve all that we get – thanks to our “beloved” FIDESZ horde.
@mariavontheresa – while you’re at it – could you list three (3) benefits of Brexit, since the United Kingdom are already in that happy place, outside of the EU? Could really convince those doubters!
You can come up with three tangible benefits, right? Please?
All of the anti Hungarian’s hungarians should get the hell out of Hungary!
That seems to be at least 20% of the population.

Please list any benefits that Hungary has received from the EU. When the socialist Gyurcsany gave away all the country’s industries, the EU celebrated with the globalists. Moneys given to Hungary by the EU just made up for that disaster. Lately, all the EU wanted is for Hungary to cede its sovereignty, mutilate its children and further impoverish the country by supplying weapons to Ukraine. Hungary has not received monetary help for protecting the EU’s border and lately any other monies.
So please, let me know what is the advantage for Hungary to be in the EU?
