5000 buried medieval Hungarian coins found in Romania
Nearly 5,000 medieval coins have been found by metal detectorists in Romania. Among the coins are 4,868 Hungarian denarii.
Live Science reports that nearly 5,000 coins were found in a large ceramic pot. The pot, including the objects inside, weighs almost 4.5 kilograms. The jar contained 4,868 Hungarian denarii, 3 silver thaler coins and 4 as yet unknown coins, all minted during the reign of Hungarian King Vladislaus II (II. UlĂ¡szlĂ³).
In accordance with the law, the Romanian treasure hunters handed in their finds at the mayor’s office in Nojorid (NagyĂ¼rögd). Licensed metal dealers receive 30-45 percent of the estimated value of the treasures found, 24.hu writes.
