Ticket and pass buying changes in Budapest from August, airport also concerned
Adapting to the modified purchase customs and to serve customers quicker, BKK, Budapest’s public transport company, makes more of its ticket and pass vending machines cash-free. Based on the company’s statement, they hope ticket and pass buying will become safer thanks to the measure.
Since the number of people buying passes and tickets cash-free in Budapest has risen, BKK decided to increase the number of no-cash vending machines in the capital by 25 from 1 August. Currently, there are 315 vending machines in Budapest, and 25 percent of them will be cash-free from August. BKK says that cash-free vending machines are more foolproof and operating them is more economical. Furthermore, fraudsters will not be able to utilise them to deceive buyers.
BKK said that, in December, they made 25 vending machines cash-free, and they did so in May with 30 additional ones. Experience shows that queues became shorter thanks to the measure and buyers used them happily. The appearance of no-cash vending machines does not change. BKK only covers the cash holes and places a warning on the device.
