Hungarian international airport to suspend operations for several days

Change language:

Flights at Debrecen International Airport will be temporarily suspended in early May as the facility undergoes essential runway maintenance, affecting a small number of scheduled services.

Temporary closure for preventive works

Operations at Debrecen International Airport will be halted between 4 May at 13:45 and 8 May at 07:00 to allow for preventive runway maintenance.

Airport operators said the works are aimed at ensuring the long-term reliability of infrastructure and continuously improving runway conditions.

During this period, no flights will depart from or arrive at the airport.

Safety and long-term reliability prioritised

According to the airport, passenger safety remains the top priority, making such preventive maintenance essential for safe air travel.

Specialists will carry out thorough inspections of the runway and perform repairs where necessary, ensuring the airport continues to meet high operational standards.

Airlines and partners have already been informed of the planned works.

Only a handful of flights affected

The timing of the maintenance has been scheduled to minimise disruption, with only four scheduled flights expected to be affected.

Passengers are advised to check with their airlines for updates and alternative arrangements where necessary.

Previous closures linked to runway issues

The airport has faced similar closures in the past. In summer 2024, operations were temporarily suspended due to runway damage caused by extreme heat.

Officials say the current preventive works are intended to avoid similar issues in the future.
