Hungary wheat export will increase this year significantly
Hungary’s wheat harvest could be around 5.6 million tonnes this year, the state secretary for agriculture and rural development said on Friday, commenting on data from the National Agriculture Chamber (NAK).
With 94 percent of the wheat harvest completed, average yield stands at 5.6 tonnes per hectare, Zsolt Feldman said in a statement. He noted that last year’s harvest had reached 4.2 million tonnes, as yields averaged 4.4 tonnes per hectare. This year’s crops of triticale, rye and oats will also be bigger than in 2023, with harvests nearing completion, he said.
Last year Hungary exported 2 million tonnes of wheat. This year that will probably be much higher thanks to the good yield.
