Brutal fuel price rise in Hungary again this Wednesday!

Last weak, fuel prices soared, and that trend will not change soon. Experts said the underperforming Hungarian economy, global crude oil price increase and the weak forint against the American dollar caused the high fuel prices. Since none of those dangers were dealt with, fuel prices continue to increase again this Wednesday.

According to hvg.hu, last week marked an unprecedented fuel price rise in the case of diesel in Hungary. But from this week, that fuel type will continue to increase in price. From Wednesday, you need to pay HUF 15 more for one litre of diesel. As a result, the average prices will be the following ones at the Hungarian filling stations:

  • Gasoline type 95: HUF 628/l (EUR 1.62)
  • Diesel: HUF 638/l (EUR 1.68)

Last week, diesel prices grew by HUF 30 in just seven days, an unprecedented increase in Hungary. Thankfully, gasoline prices do not change this Wednesday. Fuel prices are at a six-month record high in Hungary. Since the beginning of July, gasoline prices have gone up by HUF 51, while diesel prices by HUF 63.

Meanwhile, the government calculated a weaker forint (HUF 400/EUR instead of 390/EUR) against the euro when they worked out the fuel excise tax from 2024. Therefore, the increase on 1 January will be HUF 41, HVG wrote.
