Motorway vignette prices to soar from January in Hungary

The price of motorway vignettes has been affected by inflation over the past year. A ten-day sticker could rise by up to 40 percent next year in Hungary.

Next year’s vignette prices are likely to follow inflation again, at least according to a statement from the Ministry of Construction and Transport. The announcement says that the 2024 road tolls will be set by the August inflation rate, autopalyamatrica.hu reports.

When it made its forecast, the portal calculated with the expected monetary deterioration in August, i.e. an inflation rate of 15%. On this basis, the expected prices for e-vignettes in 2024 for the D1 (passenger car) category could be as follows:

• the price of the weekly (10-day) sticker will increase from HUF 5500 (EUR 14.32) to HUF 6330 (EUR 16.48),
• the monthly from HUF 8900 (EUR 23.17) per month to HUF 10,240 (EUR 26.66),
• the county (annual) from HUF 5720 (EUR 14.89) to HUF 6580 (EUR 17.13),
• the national (annual) from HUF 49,190 (EUR 128.04) to HUF 56,570 (EUR 147.25),
• and the planned one-day vignette could cost up to HUF 5100 (EUR 13.27).

Looking at the 2022 prices, this year’s vignette prices have jumped significantly, Index writes. Compared to the 2022 increase, the price of a 10-day sticker in 2024 is expected to rise by almost 40 percent, while the annual national sticker is expected to increase by 17 percent.

As in previous years, the annual e-vignette pre-purchase is expected to start on 1 December. Thus, it’s worth preparing in advance.
